Often called tropical hydrangea, this beautiful Dombeya hybrid produces large clusters of pinkish-red flowers with a long flowering period from late fall to spring. With its compact rounded shape, it can be kept trimmed to around 4 feet for container growing. It's normal height is 6 to 8 feet. Needs moist, well drained soil with full sun to part shade. Developed at the USDA Subtropical Horticultural Research Station in Miami in 1973. Popular flowering hedge plant in Florida. Its parent, Dombeya burgessiae, is native to eastern Africa. USDA zones 9 - 11.
