Family: Euphorbiaceae
This is a rarely offered evergreen succulent shrub from Jamaica, blooming with red bracts surrounding its small golden yellow flowers. In the tropics it can grow 6 to 12 feet high, but it can be container grown and kept shorter. Needs warmth, sun, and excellent drainage. It's best to plant in a cactus type potting soil. In a cooler marginal area such as zone 9b, it will probably lose its leaves in winter. Keep it on the dry side in winter and protect from frost. It's attractive to butterflies. USDA zones 9b- 12.
