This eye-catching, shrubby erect herbaceous perennial grows up to 5 feet high with bright scarlet red flowers from summer to early fall. A vigorous grower, it is best grown in very moist soil and full sun. The plant dies back in winter and re-sprouts in spring. Tolerates heat and humidity. Native to Southeast United States. USDA zones 6 - 10.
