Hibiscus acetosella 'Jungle Red'

(Syn.: Hibiscus eetveldeanus)
Hibiscus acetosella Jungle Red

Code: 51616

Price: $9.95

Out of Stock

Quantity in Basket: None

Family: Malvaceae

It is similar to Hibiscus acetosella 'Red Shield', but with finely cut maple-like reddish purple leaves and rose-colored flowers. With its deeply dissected palmate leaves, it resembles a red Japanese maple and makes a bold addition to the garden, contrasting wonderfully with green and silver plants. This tender perennial is native to tropical East Africa and is only hardy to zones 9b and 10. It is commonly used as a fast growing annual in colder climates, reaching 3 to 5 feet tall and up to 3 feet wide in one growing season. Take cuttings in the fall before the first frost and overwinter indoors or in a greenhouse. Looks very similar to the cultivar known as 'Sugar Maple'.
