A small evergreen tree, it makes an ideal potted indoor plant, bonsai, or outdoor specimen with a caudiciform trunk and is grown for its delicious seeds, which can be eaten either raw or roasted. The large, white, self-fertile flowers display spectacular clusters of 4 inch cream-white stamens. Plant in frost free location, well-drained soil, and in part shade to full sun. Tropical America.
