Family: Acanthaceae
Large terminal clusters of brilliant red flowers, green bracts. Dark green elliptic leaves. Plant in shady location, fertile, well-drained, moist soil. Native to South America. Tropical. Minimum temperature of 40F. There is some confusion between this botanical name and that of Pachystachys coccinea. Some sources indicate that these names are synonyms, others as different species. To us, the images of the plants of each look identical.
